Jamarhl Carlton Crawford is a multi-faceted individual who has woven the duality of his nature into his immense body of work. He began writing at the age of six, so in many ways he and his craft grew simultaneously. Immersed in a wide range of information, Jamarhl was exposed to many philosophies, experiences and people that have shaped his work during his whole creative process.
The transition from talented youthful writer to his present state of mature consciousness & righteous social anger, was indeed a change for the better. Jamarhl adopted the pseudonym of UNO the Prophet to signify his belief that he is a messenger of a message that precedes him infinitely. "Prophecy" is a recurring theme in Jamarhl's life, manifesting itself conceptually in almost all the titles of his various projects.
Under the banner of his company, PROPHECY COMMUNICATIONS, Jamarhl has compiled some of his work into two of his most recent projects. "PROPHECY : Reflections on Life & Love from a Black Perspective," is a self-published book of poetry, essays and short stories, while PROPHETIC VISIONS is a 19 song Hip-Hop "audiomentary" featuring exclusively politically & socially conscious lyrics. Jamarhl has entitled his complete body of work The Tablets, which is broken into three sections of scripted, audio & video projects. The Tablets include his book of rhymes, The PROPHETIC SCROLLS which itself contains the lyrics for over 140 separate songs.
Over the years, Jamarhl has presented his work directly to the masses with numerous radio & television appearances, newspaper stories, freelance writing, public speaking engagements and performances of Spoken Word Poetry & Conscious Hip-Hop. Through these activities, Jamarhl has had the opportunity to meet notables ranging from Nelson Mandela to Amiri Baraka and to present his case on local issues before esteemed groups such as the George Lewis Ruffin Society at Northeastern University.
Jamarhl promises his creativity will continue in his future projects which are to include a documentary film entitled Self-fulfilling Prophecy, a children's book and a card game. However, Jamarhl's favorite works in progress are his second book, PROPHECY: Exemption & Redemption and his upcoming second audio release, Beware of False Prophets. Ultimately, Jamarhl hopes to establish an all inclusive Black Multi-Media Library containing all forms of visual, written or audio information and a Black Media empire with which to produce new creations promoting cultural awareness and consciousness.
The definition of prophecy is simply the telling of things that will soon come to pass and as far as Jamarhl Carlton Crawford/UNO the Prophet is concerned, "Reality becomes dreams daily, our challenge is to learn to reverse the process."
Abiodun Oyewole, The Last Poets
"One of our true princes of the poetic word. He has the ability to stir your mind and your soul and I hope that all of you who have not listened or read his work will take the opportunity to hear what Jamarhl Crawford has to say."
Chuck D, Public Enemy
"The effort of Jamarhl Crawford, who I know as the rhymer UNO The Prophet, is a throwback to the spirit of the sixties or renaissance Harlem. That's when cats not only were vocal but would fearlessly put their words down in book form for all to see and soak in. This brother uses words as a machete slashing a clear thought path through the wilderness, jungles and ways of the wild-west, racism, ignorance, and fear."
